The Ultimate Korean Skincare Routine for Dry Skin
Whether your skin is dry or dehydrated, your skin constantly feels tight, itchy, flaky, or rough, you come to the right place, Korean skincare is all about hydration. Want to know more about Korean skincare routine for dry skin? We’ve got tips and the step-by-step guide and the moisturising products will help banish the dryness instantly leaving skin smooth and replenished.
1. Oil Cleanser
For dry skin, we recommend using an oil cleanser based that not only maintains the skin's moisture but also effectively removing dirt, makeup, and impurities without any irritation due to its easily washable texture. Klairs Gentle Back Deep Cleansing Oil is an excellent choice for dry skin. Formulated with natural oils including black sesame oil and black currant seed oil, it provides gentle deep cleansing while leaving skin soft and moisturised thanks to moisturising jojoba seed oil.
2. Foaming Cleanser
When it comes to finding a good cleanser for dry skin, it’s essential that you find a good hydrating cleanser that won't leave your face feeling tight and uncomfortable. Go for a low pH cleanser (pH4.5-7) that will keep your skin soft and refreshed while not weakening its natural barrier. And focus on finding ones with moisturising ingredients such as hyaluronic and ceramide. Aloe vera is also a great natural ingredient to soothe and calm skin.
Klairs Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser is a lightweight, hydrating cleanser which contains hyaluronic acid and aloe leaf extract that nourish and calm skin is perfect for dry skin.
3. Exfoliate (1-2 times a week)
If you have to deal with rough and flaky skin, exfoliating is vital as it helps remove dead skin cells which actually could make your skin drier to keep your skin soft and glowing.
We love using Klairs Youthful Glow Sugar Mask which works as a physical exfoliator gently exfoliates piled up dead skin cells. Enriched with antioxidants from grapefruit and raspberry soften your skin texture without irritation while leaving your skin moisturised after washing off. This multi-purpose low irritating exfoliation has a sherbet-like texture designed to take care of dead skin cells and pore cleansing. Which can be used as a cleansing balm and wash-off mask. Three deals in one package, what are you waiting for?
4. Hydrating Toner
So, after double cleansing (and possible exfoliating), your skin definitely is longing for some serious moisture. Laneige Cream Skin Refiner is formulated as a luxurious jar of cream which is immersed in the lightweight texture of toner for maximum hydration. This toner-turned-moisturiser base is white tea leaf water, which Laneige states as grown in the shade and harvested once a year. These tea leaves are rich in amino acids to promote a soothing, glowing skin, reinforce the skin barrier & lock-in moisture.
If you want to achieve a more bouncy, radiant skin that’s plumped up with hydration, try the three -skin or seven- skin method. It’s basically layering on three to seven layers of hydrating toner. This method allows your skin to drink up the toner helps the moisture level of the skin can be increased without heaviness or greasiness. Some do the seven-skin method weekly, for me I have been personally doing at least three skin layers every other day. However, I highly recommend not using toners which contain alcohol, synthetic fragrances or exfoliating properties as those can irritate skin if applied too many times.
5. Hydrating Essence
As the heart of the Korean skincare routine, essence helps hydrate the skin and absorbs quickly allows your skin accept serum and moisturiser more effectively. My number one essence recently for dry skin is Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence which has just been upgraded. With 80% fermented yeast extract and niacinamide to improve elasticity and revive skin tone, leaving your skin hydrated and firmer.
There are two ways to apply this essence:
Apply it directly into your palm and pat it into your skin
Apply a generous amount onto a cotton pad and wipe/dab along the skin to absorb the product
So finally this is the time for targeting your skin problem: its lipid barrier. When you have dry skin, your skin barrier is more vulnerable, which causes the dry, dull and dehydrated skin texture. What you need right now is some replenishing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid. Not only winter, my ladies, but all-year-around. In fact, there are two types of hyaluronic acid. High molecular Hyaluronic Acid creates an invisible protective barrier on the skin and keeps your skin moisturised. Low molecular Hyaluronic Acid soaks into the skin and increases the skin elasticity and makes you feel plump from the inside.
Cosrx Hydrium Triple Hyaluronic Moisture Ampoule contains three types of Hyaluronic Acid to supple deep moisture into the skin. This viscous serum texture leaves skin feeling supple and hydrated to the touch. Doesn't have a greasy finish and gives you visibly plumped healthy complexion all day long.
7. Sheet Mask for Instant Hydration (1-3 times per week)
Other skin types may need a treat from masking every now and then, but having dry skin, you will truly see the value from using sheet masks. After your skin fully absorbs essence and serum/ampoule, place a sheet mask on your face for 15-20 minutes, or as instructed. It will both improve the effectiveness of your serum and increase your skin's hydration levels.
We recommend Briskin Real Fit Second Skin Mask (Hydration) and Merbliss Wedding Dress Intense Hydration Mask. Both of them have a thin and transparent cellulose sheet which perfectly covers your skin to deliver nutrition. Also, the rich essence which provides full moisture in each mask is totally a plus. My skin is hydrated and plump instantly after using it.
8. Don't forget eye cream
As you all know, if you have dry skin, the chances of having fine lines and wrinkles are much higher than others. And the first place that it appears is your eyes. Expert advice that you can start using your eye cream when you hit the twenties. It would help if you looked for the products that are rich and emollient to keep your delicate under eyes moisturised and protected. By doing so, you can prevent your skin from failing and improve its elasticity over time.
Try Pyunkang Yul Eye Cream for a refreshing daily experience. It comes with 50 individual packages containing 1g, which is so hygiene and convenient. The main ingredients are Astragalus Root extract, ginseng extract and shea butter which develop a firmer, stronger, moisture barrier around your eyes.
9. Moisturiser or Sleeping Mask
After all of your effort, sealing your skin in hydration is quite important now. A great moisturising cream helps seal everything in and keeps your skin nourished and hydrated also helps get rid of dullness and lines.
Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream provides immediate, long-term moisture for a more radiant, hydrated complexion. The texture is creamy but not heavy at all, easily absorbed into your skin. The feeling after use is not at all irritation and leaves an effect of calming and soothing skin.
Another way to help to lock in moisturise is Sleeping Mask. COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask is enriched with more than 68% of Rice Extract to provide intensive nourishment and deep moisturization to help the skin clearer and softer.
10. SPF for daytime
In the morning, you should continue your skincare regimen with suncream to protect your skin against harmful UV rays and prevent premature ageing. We recommend you stick with the one having SPF50 to not only have enough protection but also get away from the white cast and heavy chemical smell.
Apply Innisfree Intensive Triple Care Sunscreen SPF 50++ to feel the differences. This multifunctional, water-resistant UV protection cream has a lightweight foundation that would help to enhance your skin tone a little bit while adding a subtle glow finish. A tip from us is to use your hand to pat the cream on your face instead of massage in a circle to keep the structure of the texture.
A tip from us: Using a mist at any time of the day to soothe, refresh and moisturize the skin throughout the day, especially when your skin feels dry and rough. Dear Klairs Fundamental Ampule Mist is a good start to boost your skin’s hydration and moisture levels. Look at the main ingredient of the ampule mist, including Green tea, Rice, Cucumbers, Okra and Mugwort, we take extra credit for an effective intensive hydration and antioxidant care effect.
